Document naming - the most important detail of your website!

Following our prescribed naming convention can mean the difference between users finding documents easily and finding the website challenging to use. Following our model will group documents by subject and chronologically when viewing documents in alphabetical lists.

Documents should be titled Subject YYYY-MM-DD (additional specifics).

Breaking down the rules:

  • Make the subject the first word of the document name.

    YES: Budget 2017 Approved
    NO: Approved Budget 2017

  • If a regularly published document, include the document date in YYYY-MM-DD format after the subject. Annually published documents need only YYYY, and monthly published documents only need YYYY-MM.

    YES: Meeting Minutes 2017-02-28 (BOD)
NO: February 2017 Board Meeting Minutes

  • Do NOT use the community name! (it's implied)

    YES: Declaration
    NO: Sunny Condos Declaration

  • Add additional specifics last.

    YES: ByLaws (1st Amendment)
    NO: 1st Amendment ByLaws
