Newsboard Sorting

This article will help you understand how the articles and containers on the Newsboard present and sort each other, including areas within your control.

Understanding the Newsboard Sections

The Newsboard is a vertical column of information, designed to emulate the classic cork-board in your community. This is an area where users will find important announcements, news, current relevant documents, and upcoming events.

The Newsboard consists of the following areas (in order):

  • Newsboard Banner
The Newsboard Banner is like a theater marquee. It always appears at the top of the Newsboard and it is designed for your most critical of information, like the next important meeting, an emergency water shutoff notice, or the status of a stuck elevator.

  • Newsboard Articles WITH a Priority Flag
Newsboard Articles are just like the individual articles from your newsletters. Articles tagged with one of the seven Priority Flags appear here – below the Newsboard Banner but above the Upcoming Events container.

  • Upcoming Events
This container pulls content automatically from your Calendar. If you have events occurring in the next five days, a grid view appears. If you have events occurring later than five days from now, but less than 45-days from now, a list view appears. If there are zero events in the next 45-days, the container will disappear.

  • Recently Uploaded Documents
This container automatically displays the most recently uploaded documents from the last 60-days, five documents max will be shown. If you have not uploaded any documents in the last 60-days, the container will automatically disappear.

  • Newsboard Articles WITHOUT a Priority Flag
Newsboard Articles that do not feature a Priority Flag, or any flag at all, will appear below the Upcoming Events and Recently Uploaded Documents containers.

  • Newsboard Footer
The footer contains a link to the archive of Newsboard Articles which have reached their expiration dates. Users will also find a link to the Suggestion Box eForm if enabled in the eForms control panel.

How are Newsboard Articles Sorted?

Two factors effect where Newsboard Articles are displayed and how they are sorted: Flags and Post-on Dates.

Flags

Flags are a nice way to draw attention to the theme of a Newsboard Article. There are 16 flags to choose from, and eight are Priority Flags.

When a Priority Flag is used, it causes the article to appear near the top of the Newsboard – between the Newsboard Banner and the Upcoming Events container.

If you do not use one of the seven Priority Flags, or you do not use a flag at all, the article will appear below the Recent Documents container.

Post-on Dates

When creating a Newsboard Article the software will ask you to identify when you want the article to appear and disappear from the Newsboard. These are known as the Post-on and Expiration Dates.

Newsboard Articles are sorted in reverse chronological order by their Post-on Date.

Example: An article with a post-on date of April 15 would appear above an article with a post-on date of April 14.
